Alternative Investments Conference 2026

Wednesday, September 23, 2026

The Murray, Hong Kong

CAIA Association is proud to host the inaugural CAIA Hong Kong Day - Alternative Investments Conference 2026, a premier gathering of global investment leaders, asset managers, and institutional investors on September 23, 2026.

This landmark event will explore how alternative investments are transforming from niche strategies into essential portfolio components in today’s complex and uncertain markets.

With shifting macroeconomic dynamics and persistent volatility, investors are turning to private markets, infrastructure, and private credit strategies to enhance diversification and generate resilient, uncorrelated returns.

Panel One - Rethinking Risk: The Macro Lens on Alternatives

As global markets face persistent inflation pressures, elevated risk-free benchmark yields, and structural geopolitical shifts, traditional portfolio playbooks are being tested. Systemic fragilities and investor complacency pose growing risks for allocators. Let's explore how today's macro environment is reshaping risk management, illiquidity premiums, and asset allocation across alternative investments. Panelists will debate the trajectory of high interest rates, the potential for technology-driven productivity gains, and the evolving role of non-correlated liquid hedges and real assets in navigating market stress.

09:30 - Keynote presentation - Gold: not your typical commodity investment by Claire Lincoln, Global Head of Institutional Investor Relationships, World Gold Council

Investors have long recognised the benefits of investing in commodities, as over time they have been shown to improve portfolio diversification, offer inflation protection and an element of smoothing across economic cycles. Many investors access this asset class via commodity indices; however, gold’s weighting is generally low or capped and therefore does not serve strategic investors optimally.

Whilst gold is a commodity by name, it differs in structure, behaviour, and portfolio impact vs the broader commodities complex. Given its unique supply and demand dynamics, persistently low correlation with other asset classes and resilience across market environments, investors should consider gold as a distinct portfolio allocation complementary to but not interchangeable with a broad commodity exposure.
