CAIA London
Private Equity Liquidity Under Pressure: Understanding Buyout Fund Exits & Distributions

Join CAIA London for an insightful discussion with distinguished keynote speaker Prof. Greg Brown.

Buyout fund distributions have fallen sharply since 2021 and remain well below long-term averages, raising a key question for investors: is this a temporary downturn or a structural shift in private equity liquidity? Using a large global dataset of fund-level cash flows and underlying deal exits, this research analyzes the drivers of distributions across market cycles. What does this current liquidity environment imply for portfolio management, pacing, and the evolving role of continuation vehicles and secondaries … and what are the broader implications for investors?
