Tony Davidow
Job Title: Senior Alternatives Strategist

Tony Davidow is responsible for developing and delivering the Franklin Templeton Institute’s insights on the role and use of alternative investments through independent research, participating in industry conferences, webinars and engaging directly with key partners and clients. He also serves as the host of the Alternative Allocations podcast series. The Franklin Templeton Institute harnesses the depth and breadth of the firm’s global investment expertise and extensive in-house research capabilities to deliver unique investment insights to our clients. Prior to his current role, Davidow was retained by Franklin Templeton to develop a comprehensive Alternative Investment educational program for financial advisors. He previously held senior leadership roles with Morgan Stanley, Guggenheim and Schwab among other firms. Davidow began his career working for a New York-based family office and has worked directly with many institutions and ultra-high-net-worth families over the years. He is a frequent writer and speaker with deep expertise in the use of alternative investments, asset allocation and portfolio construction, as well as goals-based investing.


Thomas Johnston
Job Title: Managing Director, Business Head Canada

Tom joined iCapital in 2020 as Managing Director and Business Head for Canada, based in Toronto. In this role, he is responsible for iCapital’s expansion into the Canadian market, partnering with leading general partners, alternative asset managers, and Canadian wealth channels, and overall management of the Firm’s business in Canada.

Prior to joining iCapital, Tom was previously the President of CI Institutional, the CEO of UBS Global Asset Management (Canada) and held roles at Invesco and RBC. He has extensive experience in business strategy, sales and servicing (both wealth and institutional), and new product development including a wide range of asset classes including alternatives. Additionally, Tom has served as a chief operating officer, chief compliance officer, and general counsel.

Tom is a trusted industry leader. He has been the vice chair and board member of the Portfolio Management Association of Canada (PMAC) and the chair of its Industry Regulations and Tax Working Committee for three years.

Tom earned a BA in history and political science from the University of Western Ontario and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Windsor. He remains a member of the Ontario Bar in good standing.


Roberto Katigbak

Roberto Katigbak, CFA is Senior Vice President, Alternative Investments Distribution at CI Global Asset Management. He leads the national strategy and execution for alternative investment adoption, spanning Private markets, Hedge funds and Liquid alternatives. 

Previously, Roberto was CEO of Marret Asset Management, where he focused on hedge funds and alternative credit. At Marret, he drove the design and execution of the firm’s growth strategy, expanding its presence in the Canadian alternatives landscape. 

Roberto holds a Finance degree from the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University and is a CFA charter holder with more than 25 years of investment-industry experience.


Benjamin Sinclair

Ben Sinclair, CFA, CAIA is an Investment Advisor and Associate Portfolio Manager with Designed Securities, with a particular focus on private markets strategies across equity, credit, real estate, and infrastructure. He is also the founder of BeyondTheExchange.ca, a platform featuring a newsletter and podcast that helps advisors, allocators, and investors navigate the growing accessibility of private markets for individual investors.

Before his advisory career, Ben was previously an equity analyst, covering stocks in the financial services sector for a mid-sized investment management firm.
