Derek Newcomer
Job Title: Director, Investment Research
Organization: Beacon Pointe Advisors


Derek leads investment manager research and due-diligence in the area of alternative investments, in addition to being a member of Beacon Pointe’s Investment Committee. Prior to Beacon Pointe, Derek held the role of Vice President at CRESO Capital Partners, Newport Beach, California, an investment banking firm focused on mezzanine investments, capital raising for preferred and common equity, and merger & acquisitions for privately held companies with revenues of $10MM to $250MM. His primary duties included client development as well preliminary financial and market due diligence of investment opportunities. Derek previously served as the Chair of the Investment Committee at the Goodwill of Orange County. He is a graduate of University of California at Santa Cruz with a major in Economics/Business Management. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA® Society of Orange County and holds the designation of Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA).


Lindsay Sharma
Job Title: Managing Director
Organization: Industry Ventures


Lindsay concentrates on originating, valuing and managing direct and secondary investments, and strategic primary fund commitments for the Industry Ventures Tech Buyout team. She serves on the investment committee for the Industry Ventures Tech Buyout Funds and is actively involved in helping to enable successful exit scenarios in older venture-funded technology companies. Lindsay also brings four years of experience as part of the Industry Ventures secondary team, purchasing secondary direct investments and limited partner interests, and assists in valuing companies.

Prior to joining Industry Ventures in 2014, Lindsay was a Principal in corporate strategy and development at Intuit, supporting merger and acquisition activities for the company. Previously, Lindsay spent three years at Great Hill Partners, a leading private equity firm that focuses on investing in growth-stage technology companies. Earlier in her career, she was an investment banking analyst at Bear Stearns in the Technology, Media and Telecom team.

Lindsay received her MBA from Harvard Business School and a BS in business administration in finance and accounting from Indiana University.


Nicholas Siemsen
Job Title: Managing Director
Organization: Pathway


Mr. Siemsen joined Pathway in 2010 and is a managing director in the California office. He is involved in all aspects of Pathway’s investment and client-servicing activities. Mr. Siemsen also oversees the continuing development of the firm’s proprietary New Investment Database. In this effort, Mr. Siemsen is responsible for expanding the capabilities of the database to assist the firm’s investment professionals in analyzing and comparing new investment opportunities. Mr. Siemsen also serves on the firm’s Technology Committee and Operations Committee. Mr. Siemsen serves on the advisory boards of several private market partnerships.

Prior to joining Pathway, Mr. Siemsen worked as a financial analyst at Raytheon Network Centric Systems. Mr. Siemsen received a BA in economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a CFA charterholder.


Mike Skillman

Mike Skillman is a Managing Director on Beacon Pointe’s Institutional Consulting team, bringing over 30 years of investment management experience across public and private markets. He advises mission-driven nonprofit organizations, foundations, health systems, and other institutional clients on investment policy, strategic planning, asset allocation, manager selection, and enterprise risk oversight.

Prior to joining Beacon Pointe, Mike served as CEO of Faith Investor Services, where he led the launch of a faith-based ETF platform in partnership with top-tier asset managers. Previously, he was CEO of Cadence Capital Management for nearly three decades, where he advised many of the nation’s leading pension funds, endowments, and foundations. His leadership culminated in the firm’s successful acquisition by Pacific Life.

Mike serves as Vice Chair of the Board at MemorialCare Health System, where he chairs both the Investment Committee and the Enterprise Risk Management Committee, overseeing a $4 billion portfolio. He is also a board member of the Saddleback Medical Center Foundation and serves on the Executive Board of the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University. He earned a BS in Finance from California State University, Chico.
