Marc deBree

Mark deBree, Managing Director and Head of Real Estate and Alternatives for the TIAA General Account, is responsible for developing and directing investment strategy and overseeing investment activity within the General Account’s global, multi-asset class alternatives portfolio totaling over $60 billion. This diversified portfolio includes strategies allocated across real estate equity and commercial mortgages, private equity, agriculture, timber, energy, and infrastructure. Previously, Mr. deBree had been part of the Portfolio Management team at Nuveen Real Estate where he led acquisition and disposition activities for multiple accounts along with the development of investment management strategies for existing investments. He joined TIAA in 2007 and prior to his portfolio management roles, sourced and underwrote new real estate investment opportunities in markets across the U.S. Before joining TIAA, Mr. deBree was an environmental planner advising private sector and public sector stakeholders on their natural resource management initiatives. He has also served on a variety of local and state level advisory boards focused on smart growth and land resource management. Mr. deBree is a CAIA Charterholder and has a B.A. in Urban Studies from The College of Wooster, and both M.B.A. and Master of Regional Planning degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jim is Vice Chairman of the Debt and Structured Finance team at CBRE Affordable Housing, where his primary focus is on building and growing the originations aspect of the GSE Debt platform. Jim previously held the position of Managing Director at Jones Lang LaSalle. Prior to his work at Jones Lang LaSalle, he spent 17 years at Red Capital, holding positions including Underwriter, Transaction Originator and Managing Director. Throughout his career, he has developed expertise in Section 8 housing, LIHTC and tax exempt bond transactions, debt structuring, and cash flow analysis.
