Job Title: Senior Analyst
Organization: Aksia, LLC


Val joined Aksia in January 2011 and is a Senior Investment Analyst responsible for esoteric and niche private credit strategies including aviation, healthcare and royalties, merger appraisal rights, litigation finance, trade finance, and corporate distressed. He also covers select event credit and multi asset class relative value credit. He is involved in all phases of the investment process including sourcing, conducting due diligence, evaluating and monitoring funds, and works closely with clients regarding their portfolio investments.


Andrew Kotliar
Job Title: Portfolio Manager
Organization: Magna Entertainment Partners


Andrew Kotliar is the portfolio manager of Magna Entertainment Partners ("MEP"), a private credit investment fund providing capital to underserved segments of the media industry. Andrew has 12 years of investing, corporate finance, and operating experience across debt and equity capital markets and tech/media/telecom opportunities. Previously, Andrew was an investor with Centerbridge Partners focused on distressed credit and special situations. Prior to joining Centerbridge, Andrew was a TMT investment banker at Goldman Sachs and a TMT equities analyst at Portland House Group. Andrew is the founder of LIVAMP, a platform facilitating investment in intellectual property, which combined with Magna, a privately-held asset manager specialized in the media industry, to launch MEP. Andrew earned degrees in Finance and International Business from New York's University Stern School of Business. He is also a lifelong musician.


Kevin Mirabile
Job Title: Clinical Associate Professor of Finance and Business Economics at the Gabelli School of Business
Organization: Fordham University


Mr. Mirabile is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Finance at Fordham University where he teaches courses on the principles of finance, investment analysis, derivatives and alternative investing. He has over 30 years of banking and asset management experience in the U.S. and abroad, including senior executive roles at Morgan Stanley, Daiwa Securities and Larch Lane Advisors related to securities operations, derivatives, securities financing, asset management and hedge fund investing. Mr. Mirabile is an active speaker and consultant on topics related to finance, alternative investing and hedge fund issues and has published several articles and books related to hedge fund investing. He is currently working on a new book on Exotic Alternative Investments due to be published this winter by Wiley Press. [Mr. Mirabile received his B.S. in Accounting from S.U.N.Y Albany in 1983, his M.S. in Banking and Finance from Boston University in 2008 and doctorate in Finance and Economics from PACE University in 2013. He is a C.P.A., a member of the A.I.C.P.A., the Greenwich Roundtable’s Founders Council and is a Trustee of the Newburgh San Miguel Academy.]


Don Plotsky

Don Plotsky is a co-founder and managing member of Uinta Investment Partners LLC, a multi-family office founded in 2017. Mr. Plotsky has 34 years of investment management experience as a leader, innovator and portfolio manager. His primary focus over his career has been on fixed-income and structured products. Prior to forming Uinta, he served as head of product development and product management at Western Asset Management (2002-2016) and served on the management, strategy and risk committees. Prior to joining Western Asset, Mr. Plotsky was a senior executive at CDC Investment Management Corp. (1997-2002) and portfolio manager at Advisers Capital Management (1993-1997), Equitable Capital Management (1988-1993) and Hutton Risk Management (1984-1988). Mr. Plotsky earned an MBA in finance and economics from New York University’s Stern School of Business (1988).


Jim Pugliese
Job Title: Chief Development Officer

Jim is an accomplished senior executive with over twenty-five years of success building businesses and raising investor capital. As the Chief Development Officer at RiverRock Funds, he has raised over $100 million of institutional capital for Fund VI, which invests in life settlements, a non-correlated alternative asset class. Prior to RiverRock, Jim was recruited by a private equity investment fund as CEO of CheckPoint HR, a SaaS-based HR technology and benefits consulting firm with 450 clients that processed $1.2 billion of payroll for 36,000 worksite employees. Prior to CheckPoint HR, Jim was the National Sales Director at HealthPlanOne, one of the nation’s largest medicare marketing companies. He was responsible for the national roll-out of the company’s online lead generation business, and was a featured speaker at industry conferences on digital marketing for medicare. Before joining HealthPlanOne in 2010, Jim was the President and co-founder of LifeOptions, a specialty-finance firm that sourced and brokered life settlements, which is the purchase of life insurance policies on seniors for the secondary market. Jim guided the company from start-up to national industry prominence, with over 3,000 case submissions, $1 billion in processed policies, and over $200 million in settlements paid to seniors. During the period from 1997 to 2002, Jim was the President and co-founder of BenefitPort, the largest healthcare general agency in the country. He led a team that raised $65 million in private equity capital to create the company, which was a national consolidation of ten group health general agencies, along with two healthcare technology companies. The company had 450 employees and revenues of $55 million, and it managed 60,000 client groups representing over $2 billion of healthcare premium. Prior to BenefitPort, Jim was recruited by Oxford Health Plans, at that time the fastest-growing healthcare company in the nation, to be the Director of Corporate Development. Jim focused on two main initiatives: • M&A: acquiring Third-Party Administrators (TPA’s) • National Network Option: partnering with regional health plans around the country to share their networks with Oxford’s client companies that had employees outside of the New York metro marketplace Jim has been a member of the Fairchester Chapter of YPO (Young Presidents’ Organization) since 1990, and served for many years on its Board of Directors. Jim received his B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the University of Connecticut.
