Bill Kelly

William (Bill) J. Kelly is the CEO of the CAIA Association. Bill has been a frequent industry speaker, writer, and commentator on alternative investment topics around the world since taking the leadership role at the CAIA Association in January, 2014. Previously, Bill was the CEO of Boston Partners and one of seven founding partners of the predecessor firm, Boston Partners Asset Management which, prior to a majority interest being sold to Robeco Group in Rotterdam in 2002, was an employee-owned firm. Bill’s career in the institutional asset management space spans over 30 years where he gained extensive managerial experience through successive CFO, COO and CEO roles. In addition to his current role, Bill is a tireless advocate for shareholder protection and investor education and is currently the Chairman and lead independent director for the Boston Partners Trust Company. He has previously served as an independent director and audit committee chair for ’40 Act Mutual Funds and other financial services firms. He is also currently an Advisory Board Member of the Certified Investment Fund Director Institute which strives to bring the highest levels of professionalism and governance to independent fund directors around the world. A member of the board of the CAIA Association, Bill also represents CAIA in similar capacities via their global partnerships with other associations and global regulators. Paul Quistberg

Paul Quistberg is Chief Investment Officer for Strategic Advisers LLC (“Strategic Advisers”), a registered investment adviser and a Fidelity Investments company. Mr. Quistberg joined the firm in 2015. He oversees the investment team and its related investment philosophy, approach, and implementation for clients with the Fidelity Go product. Prior to assuming his current position in May 2018, Mr. Quistberg was Head of Research for the Strategic Advisers research organization, which includes the quantitative and fundamental teams. He also had oversight of certain Strategic Advisers portfolio management teams. Prior to joining Fidelity in 2015, Mr. Quistberg was the Chief Investment Officer at Bank of America Global Capital Management, Bank of America’s proprietary cash and fixed income management investment advisor, from 2010 to 2015. Previously, he was the head of cash investments and liquidity strategies for Columbia Management from 2008 to 2010 and the Chief Operating Officer of the fixed income division and Director of Credit Research at Putnam Investments from 1995 to 2008. He worked earlier in his career at the Travelers Insurance Company as an investment officer and at KPMG Peat Marwick as an audit manager. Born in 1962, Mr. Quistberg has a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Connecticut and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Paul H. Smith

Paul Smith leads CFA Institute and its more than 158,000 members worldwide in promoting the highest standards of education, ethics, and professional excellence in the investment profession. Smith joined CFA Institute in 2012 as Managing Director for Asia Pacific, overseeing its expansion into China and India. He later assumed the leadership of its Institutional Partnerships division, which is responsible for engagement with key firms, groups, and associations in the global investment industry. He was appointed president and CEO in January 2015. He brings extensive leadership experience in the investment management industry, having held a variety of positions in major financial centers over 30 years. Smith started his career in asset management at Ermitage International, an alternative funds management company, progressively taking up roles of increasing responsibility across Europe (London, Paris, and Dublin) over 11 years — the last seven as the firm’s CEO. Smith moved to Asia in 1996, just as the region began to take off, to join Bank of Bermuda in Hong Kong as Asia head of securities services. In 2001, he was promoted to global head of funds services. After HSBC’s acquisition of the bank in 2004, he served as HSBC’s global head of alternative funds administration working in Hong Kong and New York, where he was responsible for the delivery of services to 2,000 investment funds with more than US$250 billion of assets. He has also pursued entrepreneurial roles, most recently as founder and CEO of the Hong Kong-based hedge fund investment management firm Asia Alternative Asset Partners for six years prior to joining CFA Institute. Early in his career, he worked as an auditor at Pricewaterhouse in London. With more than 20 years of experience in Asia, Smith is active in the region’s investment community and has served on the boards of a number of Asia-based funds over the years.
