Natural Language Processing (NLP) is an evolving field within machine learning that is empowering financial market participants by extracting value from textual content at scale. The technology has been instrumental in the continued adoption of alternative data in the investment industry, and is contributing to the ever expanding data mosaic available to hedge funds and asset managers. We'll provide concrete examples of how media attention, sentiment, and actionable events are driving financial markets across multiple asset classes and investment horizons.

Inna Grinis Senior Data Scientist RavenPack Inna is a Senior Data Scientist and Quantitative Researcher at RavenPack, specialised in global macro investment strategies and macroeconomics. Prior to joining RavenPack in July 2020, Inna worked for three years at Goldman Sachs in London, in the Global Portfolio Solutions (GPS) Group and the Investment Strategy Group, as a macro researcher. Her main projects there included thematic research on the impact of demographics on inflation and asset prices, and building an in-house nowcasting infrastructure. Inna holds a PhD and an MRes in Economics from the London School of Economics, a BA from Cambridge, and is a CFA Charterholder.


Peter Hafez

Peter Hafez Chief Dat Scientist RavenPack 2 Peter is the head of data science at RavenPack. Since joining RavenPack in 2008, he’s been a pioneer in the field of applied news analytics bringing alternative data insights to the world’s top banks and hedge funds. Peter has more than 15 years of experience in quantitative finance with companies such as Standard & Poor's, Credit Suisse First Boston, and Saxo Bank. He holds a Master's degree in Quantitative Finance from Sir John Cass Business School along with an undergraduate degree in Economics from Copenhagen University. Peter is a recognized speaker at quant finance conferences on alternative data and AI, and has given lectures at some of the world’s top academic institutions including London Business School, Courant Institute of Mathematics at NYU, and Imperial College London.


Chin Yingwen


Yingwen Chin, CAIA Partner, Albourne Partners (Asia) Limited CAIA Hong Kong Chapter Executive Yingwen joined Albourne in 2015 and is a Partner on the Asian private markets investment due diligence team focusing on Greater China and Pan-regional managers. Her experience spans across multiple alternative asset classes including hedge funds, private equity and venture capital. Prior to joining Albourne, Yingwen was the Head of Asia for funds research at Nutrimenta, a Swiss-based multi-family office, where she had responsibility for the firm’s hedge fund investments in the region. Yingwen is from the pioneer class of graduates from Singapore Management University where she obtained her Bachelor of Business Management. She has been a CAIA Charterholder since 2006.
