Description:CAIA Minnesota Private Equity Educational Event We're pleased to invite you to an engaging and informative education event discussing private equity portfolio construction and strategies. Leif Gunderson, Alternative Investments Product Manager at RBC Wealth Management will discuss private equity as an asset class, sub strategies, and techniques to construct a portfolio across strategies, vintages, and geographies. Derrick Griffin, Director of Alternative Investments at Macalester College, will lead a panel of private equity experts from local firms to discuss three distinct strategies: venture, middle market buyout, and infrastructure. Panelists will share a brief overview of their firm, trends within their areas of focus, and current opportunities within the local market and beyond. Audience Q&A session will conclude the education portion and precede a networking reception.

Joel Grebenick
Organization: Stone Arch Capital
Joel joined Stone Arch Capital in 2011. His primary responsibilities involve sourcing new investment opportunities, structuring, financing, and negotiating transactions, conducting due diligence on prospective investments, and working with various portfolio companies on strategic initiatives. Previously, Joel was an investment banker at Lazard focused on mergers and acquisitions transactions within a variety of industries, including industrial products, food, and consumer products. Joel lives in downtown Minneapolis with his wife. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, running, and watching college football and basketball. Joel is a graduate of Marquette University (B.S. in Finance and Accounting, cum laude). Stone Arch Capital makes equity investments in leading private companies with revenues typically ranging from $20 million to $150 million and earnings before interest, tax, and depreciation (EBITDA) between $5 million and $30 million. Stone Arch Capital primarily focuses on companies headquartered in the Midwest region of the United States.
Derrick Griffin
Organization: Macalester College
Derrick Griffin is the Director of Alternative Investments at Macalester College in St. Paul, MN. He oversees the private equity, real assets, and hedge fund portfolios for the $700 million Endowment. Prior to joining Macalester in early 2016, Derrick was the CIO for AEC, a boutique alternatives investment firm based in Kansas City, MO. Derrick also spent over eight years with the Missouri State Employees’ Retirement System helping oversee the day-to-day management of approximately $2 billion of private capital investments. Derrick graduated with honors from Northwest Missouri State University, is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, and a Term Member on the Council on Foreign Relations.
Leif Gunderson
Organization: RBC Wealth Management
Leif Gunderson is a Product Manager within the Alternatives Product Group at RBC Wealth Management. He is tasked with sourcing, evaluating and onboarding new alternative investment products, as well as designing private capital portfolios for the high net worth clientele of the firm. Prior to joining RBC, Mr. Gunderson was a Senior Research Associate at Jeffrey Slocum and Associates, where he focused primarily on private capital investment research for over 11 years.
Mr. Gunderson earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and completed his MBA at The University of Chicago - Booth School of Business. He is a CFA charterholder, a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) charterholder, and member of both the CFA Institute and CAIA Association.
Gene Munster
Organization: Loup Ventures
Gene Munster is a managing partner and co-founder at Loup Ventures. Prior to Loup Ventures, Gene was a managing director and senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray where he covered technology companies including Apple, Amazon, Google and Facebook. During his 21-year tenure, Gene received many acknowledgements including: Top Stock Picker from Forbes, Best on the Street from The Wall Street Journal, and was widely recognized for his work on Apple. Gene holds a bachelor's degree in finance and entrepreneurship from University of St. Thomas. Loup Ventures is a research-driven venture capital firm based in Minneapolis and New York investing in frontier technology.
Gretchen Postula
Organization: North Sky Capital
Gretchen is the head of investor relations and is also the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer. She is part of North Sky Capital’s senior management team and is actively involved in strategic planning, fund development and staffing decisions. Previously, Gretchen was a marketing and planning coordinator with the PGA Tour and an original employee of Softspikes, Inc. Gretchen earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Ferris State University. North Sky Capital is a Minneapolis-headquartered private markets investment firm that was founded in 2000 and has since raised approximately $1.2 billion of commitments. The firm currently invests in clean energy infrastructure projects through our Alliance strategy and acquire secondary interests in impact funds and companies through our Clean Growth strategy.
